Men's Chorus Repertoire List
Assembled by Dan Wolfgram, Waupaca H.S.

1. Lord, Listen to your Children Praying, Ken Medema, arr. Jack Schraeder, Hope Publishing Co. MM9012
A wonderful piece with an easy swing and a big ending. It starts with a nice unison beginning, then goes to an easy four-part section. The piano score is very important, and part of the fun! The "cool" start and powerful ending make it a favorite for young men.

2. My Bonnie Lass, Thomas Morley, E.C. Schirmer Concord Series #20
This is the old favorite madrigal of SATB ensembles, but skillfully arranged here for men's voices. It allows a large men's chorus the opportunity to show a light, precise, and sensitive singing style.

3. Grandfather's Clock, Henry Work, arr. Ralph Hunter and Robert Shaw, Lawson Gould 532
Take a fun old tune like this and put it in the hands of Hunter and Shaw and you know that you have a winner. It is tricky, but worth the effort to sell the piece. There are many opportunities for "over done" expression which makes the piece fun.

4. Rainbow 'Round My Shoulder, arr. Robert DeCormier, Lawson Gould 51757
This is a Negro chain gang song which is very powerfully arranged. It requires iron and chains for the accompaniment, and asks for "voiced exhalation" from the singers.

5. The Auctioneer, VanDyke and Black, arr. Kirby Shaw, HLeonard #08655581
Pure fun, as the choir learns the tongue twisting call of the auctioneer. A novelty piece that singers and audience enjoys.

6. In Flanders Fields, arr. Roger Emerson, HLeonard 08741384
A new arrangement which has nice harmonies that make men sound good--medium tempo with piano accompaniment.

7. Who are the Brave?, Joseph Martin, Warner Brothers SV9216
Patriotic text--bold writing--accessible to most high school men's choruses. Medium tempo with piano accompaniment.

8. Bashana Haba'ah, arr. John Leavitt, HLeonard 08740577
Beautiful melody--written in Hebrew (with a pronunciation guide). Solid harmonies, and wonderful musical possibilities. Slow tempo with piano and optional string accompaniment.

9. Kalinka, arr. Stan Engebretson, Plymouth HL-104
Fun Russian folk song, high school men love it. Has a couple of solo possibilities, sung in Russian, no pronunciation guide. Various tempi with piano accompaniment.

10. Be Thou my Vision, arr. Robert Hunter, Hinshaw HMC-375
Beautiful 3-part arrangement of the familiar hymn. Some voice crossing. Wonderful song to work tone. Slow tempo with accompaniment.

11. Like the Mighty Eagle, arr. Morton Luvaas, Kjos 2052
Easy 4-part song of the old "Glee Club" days. Great song to introduce 4-part singing. Masculine text, fast tempo, a cappella.

12. A Tribute to the Everly Brothers, arr. Roger Emerson, HLeonard 40320641
An easy 2-part arrangement of five early Everly Brothers songs. This is a favorite of many middle school boy's choirs. A fun way to introduce 2-part harmony to the young ones. Various tempi, piano accompaniment.

13. Bound for Jubilee, Joyce Eilers, Warner Brothers SV7904
Terrific beginning tool for men's choruses. An a cappella song with easy unison breaking into four parts.

14. I Will Sing Hallelujah/Lift me Up, Neil Johnson, HLeonard 42309021
Two terrific songs that are TBB. Ranges are small and they sound fabulous very fast. They are actually the same song. You can't do them on the same program.

15. Child of God, Emily Crocker, HLeonard 47103070
Great up-tempo Christmas song. Range is the only potential problem.

16. The Ghost Ship, Dave and Jean Perry, HL 43509076
Great story line. Notes and ranges are easy. Lots to do expressively and creatively.

17. Roadways, Will James, Fitzsimmons 4063
Very exciting. Explores both major and minor modes. Nice a cappella sections.

18. Riders in the Sky, arr. Norman Luboff, POP
Guys love this number and sound great quickly.

19. I Wished I Were Single Again, Lawson Gould LG052903
This is an excellent song to learn without the keyboard. If you can sing a triad you can learn this without a piano. Again, this explores major and minor mode. Needs a good soloist.

20. Toccata of Praise, Joseph Martin, CO294
This is a fabulous new men's number. It has great tempo changes and mixed meter. It is sensitive and powerful.

21. Gregorian Chant (Collection), HLeonard, HLeonard 00310003
A collection of 25 chants using Latin text only.

22. David's Lamentation, William Billings
Wonderful legato singing.

23. Oxdrivers Song, arr. Robert DeCormier, Lawson Gould, Lawson Gould LG052572

24. Shoshone Love Song, Roger Emerson, HLeonard 08740097
Simply beautiful!

25. Carry On My Wayward Son, Roger Emerson, POP

26. The Impossible Dream, John Leavitt, HLeonard 0874790
